As 2021 draws to a close, I want to make a brief reflection and make, as usual, some New Year's resolutions.
In the first few months of 2021, we were still in the midst of the pandemic - let's hope that despite the current news in 2022 we will kindly get over the hump - and travel occasions were still minimal. However, I took the opportunity to reorganise my life and professional commitments also because of my relocation to Switzerland that took place precisely at that time. Taking advantage of my new base, I resumed climbing, hiking and making short journeys by train. I studied how to use remote sensing systems in my practice and planned some new projects. I have become interested in glaciers, minerals critical to the energy transition, the concept of decolonising nature, data art and new theories on the definition of photography and images.
The fieldwork only really started again in March, with a project on the future of transportation for National Geographic Magazine that kept me busy until the beginning of the summer.
Then came the Arles Festival, the summer holidays, some commercial projects, the MIA fair in Milan, Paris Photo and the conclusion (at least I think so) of the multi-year project "Sinomocene",
From November to now, the time simply flew, and I'm already thinking about my plans for 2022.
For 2022 I hope to continue to dedicate some of my time to my leisure activities, to return to travel, but flying only when strictly necessary. I wish to complete at least one of the new projects I am working on and contribute to improving the world we live in, at least a little. I would like to experiment more with video and contaminate my work with new languages and new collaborations. I would also like to write more often in this journal because I realise how useful it is to write down theories, reflections or hypotheses when I force myself to do so.
I wish you all a happy present, a good memory of the past, Season's greetings to you and your family and very best wishes for the New Year.
