It has been a genuine pleasure to work on “How to Change the Weather” for Harper’s Magazine alongside Wyatt Williams, whose writing brought this world into focus with the kind of clarity and depth that made my job both easier and more demanding.

The piece opens with a man climbing a fence in the dark in Oklahoma City and destroying a radar tower with a hammer, convinced the military is using it to control the weather. It moves to a startup in El Segundo, California and much more. Wyatt traces the full arc of humanity’s relationship with the sky: from Poseidon and Yahweh, to the US Air Force seeding clouds over Vietnam and more, to the slow, extraordinary realisation that we have already changed the weather on a planetary scale, accidentally, and have very little idea what to do about it now. The question he leaves you with is simple and enormous.

To know it, you have to read the article.
